Unedited parts are carried over byte for byte. A document file is a bundle of parts. When you save, LynxOffice copies unmodified styles, comments, charts, and speaker notes back exactly as they were instead of regenerating them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can LynxOffice open .doc files?
No. LynxOffice opens .docx, .rtf, .txt, and .md files. For the older .doc format, it explains how to convert the file instead of opening it with missing content.
Are tracked changes and comments preserved when I save?
Yes. Tracked changes and comments are preserved when you save, and unmodified comments are written back byte for byte. You can also accept or reject changes and resolve comment threads from an AI assistant through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server.
Can I compare two versions of a document?
Yes. Review ▸ Compare opens a new document that marks every difference between the original and the revised version as a tracked change. Review them with the usual tools, then save the result as .docx. Neither of your two files is changed.
Does it support headers, footers, and sections?
Yes. LynxOffice opens sections, headers, and footers as the file defines them, including different first-page and odd/even variants, and you can edit each one.
Does it support a table of contents and footnotes?
It generates a table of contents from your document's headings. Inserting footnotes, endnotes, and citations is not available in this release.
